The newly formed Castlereagh Spartans Golf Society tee’d off in the first meeting of the season at Ormeau Golf Club on Friday afternoon with plenty of hooks, shanks and laughs along the way.
The first group got under way at 12:30 with John Sempey, Stephen Cairns & Chrissy McConnell hitting the course only to be joined by some randomer along the way. The second group consisted of many bandits, Mark Reynolds, Alistair Eccles, Tommy McKinnon and shark of the day Ian Walker and finally Neill Simpson, Arnaud DosSantos, James Glover & Clark “Happy Gilmore” Caughey with his hockey stick putter manking up the final four ball.
Withe the video camera and a captive audience at the first tee, everyone got away safely without embarrasing themselves too much, even if it was just a 5 iron hack from Cairns to get the ball rolling down the fairway.
Ater 18 holes Neill Simpson claimed the top spot with 41 points and a one over par round, as well as claiming bragging rights for closest to the pin and the longest drive. Ian Walker was recognised as the shark of the day, claiming a much higher handicap than he was playing to, and dispite his best efforts Happy Gilmore was pipped to the wooden spoon by Cairnsy who was concentrating more on the evening out, which also proved to be a lot of laughs.
Many thanks to Neill Simpson for organising the day, roll on the next one.
